Biodynamic Breathwork Workshop

  • Nurture Saddleworth 23 Sam Road, Diggle Oldham United Kingdom (map)

Biodynamic Breathwork is a somatic approach to trauma and stress release using six components of Breath, Movement, Sound, Touch, Emotions, and Meditation. This powerful technique supports the release of deep rooted tensions held in the nervous system through exposure to stress and traumatic experiences. These tensions manifest within 7 areas in the body that correlate to the chakras, restricting the natural flow of the breath, showing up in the body as pain, illness, or how we relate to others, ourselves and our environment.

We release the energetic charge held in the body by activating the sympathetic nervous system using a connected breathing technique. Connected breathing allows the very essence of your life force energy to flow through your body in a conscious way, clearing blocks and making space within to experience life. Touch and bodywork supports the opening of tense muscular tissue and disrupts the physical and emotional holding patterns of movement that allow the body to let go of the tension.

Once your body is charged with bioenergy, we encourage physical release in the form of fluid spinal movements and tremoring which discharges excess energy that has been trapped in our muscles allowing us to complete trauma and stress cycles. Emotions and feelings that have been suppressed and unacknowledged begin to rise to the surface following the opening of muscular tenseness and an opportunity for deeper connection with our self and supports a life of emotional freedom and mastery.

In the workshop, you will be guided, using connected breathing, to fill your body with oxygen and introduce movement, expression and bodywork to fully release any trapped energy, emotions, stress or trauma that is held within your body.

We will move through the body exploring these tensions using our felt sense and pendulate between the sympathetic nervous system and the parasympathetic, our meditative resting state, to further allow the tensions to dissolve whilst teaching the body how to be in a regulated, non-stressed state of being. Finally, you will be supported to be present with yourself to integrate the experience.

Who is leading this workshop: Laura Thomson of The Meraki Way

After growing up close to Diggle, Laura moved to London to attend drama college. Whilst working professionally as an Actor and Theatre Practitioner, Laura noticed the healing potential of theatre and became fascinated by the mind-body connection. Deepening her enquiry she traveled the globe absorbing new cultures and approaches to healing; discovering the power of meditation, yoga and reiki. It was on her travels in India that she first discovered Biodynamic Breathwork, which inspired her to pursue a career in therapy.

On return to the UK she combined her theatre background and passion for healing, training as a Dramatherapist. Working with trauma, bereavement, mental health and life limiting illness in this body-based modality opened up a new level of awareness around how emotional challenges can manifest in the body and everyday life.

Wrestling with her own physical pain from Hypermobility Syndrome, she returned to Biodynamic Breathwork and the true healing potential of this powerful system of trauma and tension release.

Passionate about this work Laura created The Meraki Way offering online and individual sessions for groups and individuals. Having recently returned, Laura is delighted to bring this powerful somatic healing modality to her hometown.
